Here’s a wonderful show to tell you all about. “Art at the Farm” to benefit Garfield Farm Museum, LaFox, Illinois. June 28 and 29, 2008.
Garfield Farm is a place close to my heart and my home. This is a historic Inn and farm from the 1840’s which if we don’t protect and preserve it, will become a historic blip off the map and out of our minds. It is located just three miles west of Geneva and St. Charles, Illinois. It will be held at the newly acquired Mongerson Farm, a Gothic Style farm with lots of out buildings. All proceeds, booth fees etc., will go to benefit the upkeep of this wonderful historic place. There are indoor and outdoor spaces available for this show. Electric is also available.
If you’re an artist and wish to exhibit please contact
Susan Stillinger at suzstillinger@comcast.net
For more info about Garfield Farm check out their web site at www.garfieldfarm.org.

Remember how fun it was to pass out Valentine cards in school? When I was in 4th grade (travel back with me…won’t you!) we decorated little cardboard mailboxes. The perfect little receptacle for all those sweet notes. I received one Valentine that was a crumpled up piece of notebook paper. When I uncrumpled it…I found a note saying “I really like you. Do you like me?” Of course the standard elementary check boxes followed. “Check yes, no or maybe!” My love note was not signed, so as I looked around the classroom to try and determine who my secret admirer might be…I saw my friend Mike hiding under his desk! Poor thing. The secret was out. Mike had written me the note and was now dying of embarrassment. I checked the “maybe” box…because really…how could my 9 year old self know! And we never spoke of it again! Now my 2 sons are picking out their Valentine’s and I get such a giggle thinking of my 7 year old possibly writing a note like that one day! I think instead of crumpled up notebook paper…we are going with the Star Wars theme
No love notes just yet!
I love to think of the holiday as a special time…not only for couples…but for friends and sisters and Moms…
It’s really the perfect time (if you happen to need an excuse:)) to tell someone how special they are to you. What are your plans for Valentine’s Day?? Do share with us! I’m wishing all my Folk Art Friends and all my lovely blogland friends a Happy Valentine’s Day! May your day be extra special and filled with love.

It is Ground Hog Day and judging from the sunny skies around here, the poor thing is going to see his shadow and jump back in his hole for six more weeks of
winter. Unfortunately for me, cabin fever is setting in big time and I am more than ready to get outside and dig around in my garden. Oh well, paging through my seed and garden catalogs, looking for new plants that will make beautiful castings, will just have to do for now while I wait for the mercury to push above 60. Heck, I will even take a 40 or 50 degree day –it’s been darn cold around here lately.
It’s on these cold winter days that I like to retreat into my work/art room, which is painted green of course, and get inspired by a lot of fun quotes that I have been collecting. One of my favorites is,
“I wonder what it would be like to live in a world where it was always June”
-L.M. Montgomery
It gives me hope that before I know it the days will be warm and long and winter will be a distant memory.
This is also the time of year I like to look around my house and make changes. Sometimes a simple rearrangement of furniture or a new accessory is all it takes for me to feel refreshed. And lucky for me I found a new group of artist friends at www.folkartandfriends.com to help me do just that. So be sure to add a bookmark and stop by often, you won’t be disappointed. Perhaps you will find a new piece of art that will brighten your day too.

A group of the Folk Art and Friends came together for the Launch party last Sunday, which was so graciously hosted by the lovely Jackie of Fat Jak Originals. Her warm and welcoming home was the perfect setting to celebrate this coming together of like minded and warm hearted artists. It seems that we all felt right at home with one another. You know that comfortable feeling that you get when you feel like you’ve known someone for a long time? Well, that is truly what Folk Art and Friends is all about. We create art that warms the heart and pieces that make a wonderful connection between the buyer and the artist who created it.
Some of the artists shared their creations at Sunday’s gathering, which was such a treat. It was fabulous to see all of the detailed work up close and so very apparent that a great deal of care, passion and creativity went into making these wonderful works of art. As the evening went on, we celebrated with great food, drinks and laughs. I’m sure that you will sense the fun and the at home feel as you visit and explore our website. Feel free to look around, I know that our images will make you smile.
Be sure to visit our blog regularly and stay up to date with all of the happenings at Folk Art and Friends. Stop by anytime, you are always welcome!
With warmest regards, Your Folk Art Friend, Debbie Egizio

We have to come together with a common goal…..our passion is art and our dream is to share it with others. We have found each other because of this passion and we hope that you stay awhile and enjoy. Other local artists and myself have come together to explore the possiblities of the art world. Really we like art so much its just an excuse to come together, laugh and share ideas and talk art. We plan to do shows and have new pieces for you to add to your collection each month. All of us will be contributing to this blog, so feel free to ask questions…..ramble with us and enjoy the joys of art. On our artist page, you will be able to reach any of us and see our work.
